I wanted to find out what the fuel consumption of my TS2 Gen Set was, so I hooked up a temporary fuel tank, and measured how long it took to burn a litre of diesel. After this test, I wanted to find out what the maximum output power of the set was, so I kept adding load and seeing what she'd take before the frequency dropped too low. Any questions...

    So you got something that failed in the first 6 months the warranty on dbx is 2 years? Why did you not return it under warranty? And the Ribbon cable is removable I’d say it was either a poorly connected IDC or a dry solder joint on the board pin connectors .. both easily fixable. But I find it strange that your bitching about something that could and should have been settled by a warranty claim with dbx ( I’ve felt with them for decades I am an electronics technician) never any issues with any claims ( probably 10 in 30 years ) but also now that YOU have removed the cover the warranty is voided … why blame something that you could have avoided by following the correct warranty procedure 6 months in to a 2 year warranty??? WHY

    I appreciate all feedback good or bad. We can all learn from them all and I agree as to DBX is highly recommended in my opinion and although this was probably an issue with materials shipped to the manufacturer. Great find and test.

    Great video. I have the shit system with crap Lucas pump, ecu and the crappier glow plug relay box and the DW8 engine. I also have the fully mechanical bosch VE pump on another DW8 engine so considering swapping over the pump so I can have a 'Go' switch on the dash for the pump and a 'heat' switch on the dash for the glow plugs. Do you know if the ecu controls anything else on the car that might stop working if I remove the ecu entirely?

    An excellent tutorial! One big advantage of the pressure bleed system is the air bubbles keep going, unlike pumping by foot where they just keep moving with each push, any loops in the pipework just keep air. I have just removed my 306 Master cylinder and found the rear pipe fitting damaged just like yours, but we have had the car from new(1993) so that damage was inflicted at the factory. Chris B.

    strange ... I would assume that this cable can not break as long as it is working initially. There is not physical load on that one at all. Before you open it send it in get it repaired or a different unit? There could always be a production problem. Cheap is not always bad. The customer does not want to pay that much. If this "clamp" works in almost all cases go for it and replace the units that fail. If you have to open it and you identify the problem ... repair it. Yeah the cut connection is nasty but I assume that you can fix it within a nice afternoon.

    Great little walktrought of how to make this work. This Alesis compresor (360) gets a lot of bashing from studio guys but I'm assuming here we are not compressing/limiting the audio but basically putting a squeeze on it by sidechaining it and the compressors character shouldn't be affecting the audio qulaity very much?

    Would it be possible to locate the feed from the ecu to the glowplug light and cut it, then run feed from one of the glow plugs back up the loom and connect into length wire left at the back of the light, so the light is wired directly to the glow plug feed?

    i retrofitted Air conditioning to my 2005 Dispatch and was looking for one of these controllers but they are quite rare! i ended up going for the one that has the "air recirculate" slider being replaced with the 2 button "Recirculate and A/C" buttons. it was great! and now 3 years on its still working perfect! its all documented on the Dispatch Expert Scudo Forum and i made videos on my channel too! now i am looking at retrofitting Cruise control using a 206 steering wheel radio stalk as its the same stalk (just with 2 wires where the cruise control stalk uses 5) can soon fix that as they are both 4 button stalks. again, i am adding this to the forum and will make a video on it :D

    • @NickExton309
      @NickExton309 2 роки тому

      Hi Lee, If it bump starts fine when cold, then it's likely you have a bad starter motor. But yes, bad glow plugs will definitely cause it to not start as well, but if the glow plugs were bad, the fault should still be present when you bump start it. Does the engine turn over when it's cold? if it does, is it any slower than usual?

  • @TomCee53
    @TomCee53 2 роки тому

    I’m sorry, but calling this a design flaw, is premature at least and misleading. Unless you have examined a significant sample of a production run, you have no idea if this is a flaw in design, construction, or simply a matter of human error. There’s even the possibility that the heat of being stacked on top of your power amps caused excessive expansion and contraction of the cable crimp, lading to a premature failure. You have jumped to a conclusion before fully investigating the issue. I will grant that the response of DBX that you need to work with the vendor for warranty may not be the most customer-oriented response. I also can understand your frustration at equipment failure during a job, but you should probably contacted DBXor your vendor as soon as you had the first error. If it were a true design flaw, they would either already be aware of it and respond quickly to your issue, or they would be grateful for finding the problem. In any event, I’m as bothered by your attitude as the response o DBX. It seems that you are the type to want to fix problems yourself, baby not involving the experts, you actually may have contributed to others have a false impression of quality and faith in the products. I have yet to deal with a vendor who was not interested in improving their product, and I have been dealing with electronics vendors for over 40 years.

    Note that the older DBX 266 XL unit seems to have similar ribbon cable: ua-cam.com/video/6ywhdEj6AE4/v-deo.html Maybe you were just unlucky with your unit? If the design was not robust enough, they would have probably fixed it with this more modern variant.

  • @MikkoRantalainen
    @MikkoRantalainen 2 роки тому

    Wow! They used really low quality ribbon cable connector on the other end. It appears that the cable itself is probably okay but the connector at the end of the cable is bad. If the rest of the device is good, it might be worth replacing that connector with higher quality part (basically desolder the old connector, solder replacement part) or even soldering the wires directly to the board. I'd personally go with soldering because you still have a proper connector in the other end if you need to take the unit into parts. One detachable connector is good enough between boards. And it appears that DBX actually agrees here because they didn't intend the front end to be disconnected from the board.

  • @MikkoRantalainen
    @MikkoRantalainen 2 роки тому

    The story at the start is a perfect example why you should have redundant backup for everything. That means if you use DBX 266 XS, you have one spare unit in your rack which is normally not powered at all but in case of any trouble, you switch the connectors from the faulty one to that. All equipment can break without a notice, no matter the manufacturer. Some brands just brake more often.
